Agricultural researcher Merle Flohr sets up two test plots. She is studying the growth behaviour and resistance of pumpkins, beans and maize. But from the very start, new voices intrude on the proceedings: the sceptical farm owner reports disturbing events on the test plot at night. No easy undertaking: a single handful of soil contains more living creatures than there are people on the entire planet. And all of them demand one thing: attention!
